HALO Green Beret Usage
« on: 29 July 2010, 05:37:58 PM »

A question for you guys how often do you actually use the HALO drop power.

or do you just get regular green berets that are almost identical.

If the HALO drop were to be improved, like having a more diverse team would you guys use it.

Also if you have any suggestion or opinion please voice them.

I love them. I think they are far superior than the normal GBs.
I used it almost every game; they are great for destroying base defenses, there's no better way. They rip through Vulcans without being detected when firing, two grenades kill a Dozer, they can pick out AA soldiers or destroy Mortars with their c4. The AI can't cope with them, they never search for you or build guard towers..while you scout out the base and can do a BDA after the strike!
Another plus is that you don't need a chopper - way way safer if you want to drop them right behind the enemys base.

Diversed team? Yeah, an always stealthed LAW, Captain and Medic along with two GBs would be awesome. But overpowered, I guess.

Now I will throw in these factors I know from the Beta.

-Recent health changes in the Beta means regular infantry are now harder to kill, so giving them a chance of fighting back no more instant caps.
-NVA troops have a wider stealth detection radius giving them way better chance of detecting Halos

Raiding a NVA base is different from a US base things can go wrong quick as they have several ways to detect stealth.

In my opinion they are a bit too attuned to fighting against the US which is why I wanted to see what you guys think just playing with the US.

When we say diverse, we mean Green Berets with different role like medics, demo, sniper, etc similar to what you suggested but more like the Delta Team drop power in CWC.

I agree giving them a law is too op as I'll would like to have the team more useful but not Anti-Everything.

The thing about the Delta Drop inCWC in my eyes is that if you plan a raid and only man dies, than that's it. This was maybe the person you wanted (Sniper, Medic) and you're left with units that won't do the job.

One can look at it that way, but one can also looks at it as something that balances it out

but I'm not saying we should have it exactly like Delta Team.

Out of interest how would you have arrange the team?
no heavy weapon like laws and redeyes however.

Just throwing Ideas out there:

-since every man in a Green Beret team is a trained professional, they are all capable of communication, first aid, setting up ambushes etc....so my idea is to drop 5 GBs, and that three or all of them can be tasked once to do a special role, like medic, a M16 sniper rifle, air and artillery support controller, a captain etc.

-Upgrades in the field ops, for example medikits, that heal the HALOs slowly themselves or flares that gives way more recon or the ability to plant more than one Claymore per klick.

-drop three BGs, a captain and a sniper and make them longer or better stealthed under trees than normal soldiers and give their weapons a bit more range.

-I like the way of the F-117 stealth attack in CWC and it would be cool if the HALOs could call in a F-111 or a few B-52, but than their price would exceed 1GP and render the MFR useless.

The MFR can do nothing except his support powers, he is useless against anything unfriendly. Since normal GBs have found their match in regular Marines, I don't send normal GBs to do attacks or infiltration - I use them only to scout and wait until I have reached lvl5 to do more than scouting, because an challenging AI base littered with Marines will make short process out of a team of normal GBs.

I don't see the point in a GB Sniper. Might be going too far. Unless we gave him the M21, but make it function like a souped up M14 (more range and accuracy.) A medic sounds good. And maybe an M79 in there. The rest will function like the current Green Beret HALO.

M-79 would be somewhat redundant as they already have 40mm GL we don't want them to have too many anti-infantry reaper.

A Beret sniper acting as a regular sniper would indeed be a bit too powerful, I guess we can have him like the Delta sniper a regular weapon but with a sniping ability that is one use, with a long reload/recharge time

It would be preferred if the Sniper Beret had the M14 as its regular weapon but using the M21 model
The M21 model would represent the Sniper Beret's special sniping ability that can be used to take out one enemy
the special power would be one-use with a long reload/recharge.

Yeah, the GBs have already a grenade launcher and yes, the sniper rifle should be not the same as the regular snipers.

Perhaps like in COH with the British Infantry Section. Can give one of the members a scoped .303 which functions like their normal rifles, except you can use an ability to snipe out a single enemy in a unit and kill him, which has a recharge time (could exclude the cost.)

In V|GO, we could perhaps make one of the soldiers carry an M21 (which functions like a normal M14) but you can use a sniper ability to instantly kill an enemy unit, then wait for it to recharge and then use it again.

Point Taken, already mentioned.
